Hosts Kate Humble, Jing Lusi, Ant Anstead, and the Hairy Bikers travel to different parts of China to follow the annual event. In the first episode preparations are being made at the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival, where people are enjoying a winter wonderland and diving into minus-30 degree water. With 2016 being the year of the monkey, Humble is prompted to seek out the snub-nosed monkeys of Yunnan, while Lusi gets familiar with ancient firework practices.
