Description: Geologist Iain Stewart demonstrates the power of plants and the crucial role they have played in the Earth's evolution. The three-part series reveals how plants harnessed light from the sun and created our life-giving atmosphere; formed the fertile soil allowing life to come ashore; created the planet's colour; sculpted the planet itself, carving its very surface; drove the evolution of every single animal in the world; and even shaped the destiny of our ancient ancestors. The programme also features Stewart carrying out a number of experiments, including one in which he seals himself in an air-tight chamber full of plants and is kept alive for 48 hours purely by the oxygen the plants create.
