The result is this eight-part series, which captures the vivid patchwork of human experience - the grief, heroism, tragedy, relief, joy, bitterness, hilarity, frustration, compassion, tedium and selflessness - that are evident across Britain's biggest institution every single day. The series also provokes profound questions about what the NHS does for citizens now and what can be expected of it in the future.
