Servants: The True Story of Life Below Stairs

Description: A century ago, more than one million British people worked as servants, but they have largely been forgotten in the time since then. Social historian Dr Pamela Cox, the great-granddaughter of servants, is trying to prevent their stories from being lost to time. In this three-part series, Cox uncovers the story of servants' lives from the Victorian era through World War II. The stories Cox tells include servants who worked in the grand houses of the Victorian ruling elite and what happened when servants directly challenged their masters and mistresses, which caused havoc in Edwardian society.
